1. How many pageants have you previously competed in? (Please include which system and your placement) I competed in the Miss Mississippi Teen USA 2012 pageant and placed in the top 5 as the fourth runner-up. It was my first pageant.
2. What made you decide to compete in Miss Mississippi USA 2016? I had plans on participating after my first competition because it was so fun and invigorating, but sadly life experiences, such as the passing of my parents delayed my dream for awhile. After going through that experience, it made me even more determined to come back, compete, and win so that I could inspire others to never give up and to go for your dreams against all odds.
3. Outside of competing in pageants, what do you like to do for fun? I somewhat consider myself a girly girl! I love listening to music, shopping, cooking, reading, and writing. I’m a member of the Army Reserve so exercising is beginning to become a hobby as well, slowly, but surely!
4. Give a brief bio about yourself. Include where you are attending school(include year and major if applicable), your future goals, etc. (Feel free to include however much or little as you like in this section) My name is Alaykeeyan Wilks (pronounced uh-lay-key-in) and I am twenty one years old. I am currently attending the University of Southern Mississippi as a sophomore. After graduation, I plan on traveling and seeing the world. I’m definitely a self proclaimed free spirit, so my future goals would be just doing whatever makes me happy; whether I’m volunteering in a third world country, chasing my entertainment dreams in California, or taking a pilates class. I like to live in the moment. Of course one day in the far future, I want to be married and a mom.
If you win your state title, what do you hope to accomplish throughout your reign? I would like to go forward and bring Greenwood Productions the Miss USA crown ultimately. In the process of preparing for that I would like to use my title to give back to my hometown (Prentiss, MS) and the city I attended high school (Hattiesburg,MS). I would love to speak to kids about bullying and the importance of self-esteem. I would also like to bring attention to kidney failure because it was a disease my mother suffered from since my birth. I would use my title to just simply help anyone that I could anyway possible.
5. What is your dream job(besides being Miss USA, of course!) Ever since I was 3, I always dreamed of being an entertainer. I would like to be an actress, singer, model, fashion designer, humanitarian, and tv host. As a child, I played the violin, performed in talent shows, school plays, wrote movie scripts, generally dabbing in anything that had me performing.
