How many pageants have you previously competed in?
My first pageant was Miss North Dakota Teen USA 2009 (held in the fall of 2008). I had entered for practice and experience... and ended up winning! I then was the youngest contestant at Miss Teen USA in the Bahamas. Since then, I have been Miss North Dakota High School Rodeo Queen 2010, Miss North Dakota Collegiate America 2012, Miss Rodeo Mandan 2013, Miss Rodeo North Dakota 2014, Top 10 at Miss Rodeo America, and finally I started my Miss ND USA journey: Semi-Finalist 2016, 2nd RU 2017, 3rd RU 2018, 1st RU 2019.
What made you decide to compete in Miss North Dakota USA 2020?
After the opportunities of being Miss North Dakota Teen USA, it has always been my goal to become Miss North Dakota USA. This title gives you a platform to speak on the matters important to you, network for future career goals, and make your family and friends proud. I want to represent the humbling upbringing of rural America, while making my dreams of hosting, publishing my book, and traveling happen.
Outside of competing in pageants, what do you like to do for fun?
I grew up with hundreds of cows and 20 horses on a farm that is over 100 years old... naturally riding horse and helping my family on the ranch are hobbies! But I also LOVE to cook, write, garden, and thrift shop. I also own and operate my own photography and art business.
Give a brief bio about yourself.
I come from a town of twenty (yes, 2-0) people. I attended a 2-room country school house (yes, similar to the Old West movies!). We have no paved streets or stop lights! With that said, I have traveled all across the United States as a motivational speaker and a Rodeo Queen (ambassador for marketing of the sport and sponsors). I graduated from Black Hills State University in 2012 with a Associates degree in Tourism and Event Planning; and from Minot State University in 2016 with my Bachelors. I have worked for a Fortune 100 company, and currently am the Communications Director for a non-profit organization that celebrate art, history, and culture. I am also in the process of writing my first children's book: Super Sage.
If you win your state title, what do you hope to accomplish throughout your reign?
I would love to publish my book this year, and promote it while Miss North Dakota USA. It is about a young girl who is diagnosed with cancer, and I would enjoy visiting children's hospitals and volunteering with Make-A-Wish. I also want to inspire other young women to never settle: find the job they love, surround themselves with people who believe in them, and to challenge themselves to something each day.
What is your dream job (besides being Miss USA, of course!)?
My dream is to host in the entertainment industry (preferably on the Food Network or for the Professional Bull Riding). If this doesn't happen, the idea is to have a huge ranch, with cows, chickens, goats, and horses; with a "She Shed" in the yard where I can work and create on my art!
