How many pageants have you previously competed in? (Please include which system and your placement)
I started competing in pageants 2 years ago, Miss Kemah USA 2015 was my first pageant, I placed 4th runner up. My second time to compete at Miss Kemah USA was the next year and I was awarded Best in Swimsuit and Miss Congeniality. During this time, I had also competed twice at Miss Texas USA winning Most Photogenetic in 2016 and, Miss Houston USA placing top 10 and Miss Congeniality in 2015 and 3rd runner up in 2016. Then, I won Miss Kemah USA 2017 and Most Photogenetic on my third try! This year will be my third time competing for Miss Texas USA and I could not be more excited and humbled to represent Miss Kemah at my state pageant.
What made you decide to compete in Miss Texas USA 2018?Miss Texas USA has always been a dream of mine. As a young girl, I followed my neighbor Brooke Daniels journey from winning Miss Texas USA 2008 to watch her compete for Miss USA. But, it wasn’t until my best friend and neighbor, Karlie Hay, convinced me to compete in my first pageant. Karlie won Kemah Teen that year and went on to win Miss Texas Teen USA and Miss Teen USA the following year. Our neighborhood has good luck! We currently have two reigning title holders and one former Miss Texas USA and I too want to follow in the footsteps of these two ladies who I admire so much and join the sisterhood of Miss Texas USA.
Outside of competing in pageants, what do you like to do for fun?I honestly love working out, it’s the best way to relieve stress and take my mind off things. I love swimming and taking my dog for a run, it keeps me active while changing up my workout routine every day. I also love to eat, eat, eat and that is probably why I love to work out so much. There is nothing better than spending time with family and friends celebrating each other and our accomplishments in life over a nice meal, but it is pageant season so my favorite Taco Bell is going to have to wait until after Miss Texas USA weekend.
Give a brief bio about yourself. Include where you are attending school (include year and major if applicable), your future goals, etc. (Feel free to include however much or little as you like in this section)I am a 22-year-old full time college student at Sam Houston State University. I am majoring in Mass Communication/Multiplatform Journalism and minoring in Communication Studies. After graduation, I am on my way to become a Sports Broadcaster for ESPN. My involvement with pageantry has changed my life, pageants have opened opportunities for me to meet new people, and volunteer with charities that allow me to talk about my platform, Mental Health awareness.
If you win your state title, what do you hope to accomplish throughout your reign?
Winning my state title, Miss Texas USA, would absolutely be a dream come true, it would not only bring me to the Miss USA stage but it will also allow me to make a difference in so many people’s lives. I am an advocate for Mental Health Awareness. I have suffered from Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) since I was 5 years old, so I have personally lived through the many struggles of living with a mental disorder. I want to use my voice to help those who live with similar struggles like me know that they are not alone and that we have nothing to be ashamed of. Whether you suffer from ADHD, Bipolar Disorder or even an eating disorder to name a few is nothing to be ashamed of it is who we are and we just need to be given the tools to learn how to overcome our disorder so we can live a happy and successful life.
What is your dream job (besides being Miss USA, of course!)?
Working for ESPN is my dream job, I am a sports fanatic especially baseball. My brother has been playing baseball since he was 5 years-old and is now playing at the college level. He and I always joke that one day he will be playing in the MLB and I will be right there interviewing him at the World Series. That would be a dream come true.
