How many pageants have you previously competed in? (Please include which system and your placement)
I technically went to my first pageant when I was in the womb! I grew up around pageants because of my beautiful, talented, and kind mother. However, I didn’t start my own pageantry career until I was in 8th grade, when I competed for Miss California’s Outstanding Teen, where I won talent (opera) and placed 4th runner up 2 years in a row. After moving to Chicago for college, I decided to compete in Miss Illinois USA where I made the top 15!
What made you decide to compete in Miss Illinois USA 2018?
Winning the title of Miss Illinois is a chance for me to let girls know they can be smart, beautiful, and make a difference. I would love to use my title to lobby locally and nationally for progressive healthcare reform. Besides the benefits of the crown, pageantry is a way for me to feel confident and feminine. Both of my jobs and what I study in school are male-dominated fields. I love being able to get glammed up and meet other amazing women!
Outside of competing in pageants, what do you like to do for fun?
I am a microbiology lab tech at DePaul University and am a kickboxing trainer at 9Round Lincoln Park. I am lucky enough to have 2 jobs that are things I am so passionate about- science and fitness. Outside of work, I am a mac n cheese connoisseur/foodie, world-traveler, and 90 Day Fiance and Game of Thrones fanatic.
Give a brief bio about yourself. I
I am a rising Junior at DePaul University, studying public health and biology. After college, I plan on going to a joint masters program where I can obtain my JD and masters in public health or microbiology.
If you win your state title, what do you hope to accomplish throughout your reign?
Miss Illinois is not just a stepping stone for Miss USA, but the chance to serve Illinois. Being a title-holder is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and if I were lucky enough to win, I would make the most of every single day as Miss Illinois USA. I hope to be busy working to create progressive healthcare policies for Illinois and the rest of the country, and also working in Chicago with CPS to increase the percentage of women in STEM careers. On a lighter note, I would love to be a special guest and get free entry to all of Chicago’s amazing food festivals!
What is your dream job (besides being Miss USA, of course!)?
After obtaining my masters, I hope to work for the CDC doing infectious disease prevention. After that, I would love to do healthcare policy and create the first lasting and efficient universal healthcare system in the US.
